Based in Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater, I am a level 3 qualified Personal Trainer with GP referrals and almost 10 years gym floor experience.
I came into fitness quite late, when I was 32.
After having two children I had taken up running as a way to lose the baby weight. What I discovered was the freedom of just putting one foot in front of the other, leaving my world behind for an hour or sometimes two and saying goodbye to the stress of my day. And that's where it all began.
I have always been really shy. I run away from new people and new situations and have always had low confidence, but in 2004 my life changed.
I had been working as an Accounting technician for over 10 years. I had been married for almost 8. I had a lovely house and two beautiful children.
Yet things weren't right.
My husband and I decided to separate and in August of that year, on the same day that my ex husband moved out, I started a new role as a trainee fitness instructor for Eden, a new female only gym that had recently opened.
I loved the gym. It wasn't like any other gym I had been to. The atmosphere and community was like nothing I had experienced before. And I found I had a new passion - helping others.
I started with part time evening hours, working around my accounting job, however it wasn't enough. I wanted to be able to do more. To help more people. So at the start of 2005 I quit my well paid accounting job and started full time in the gym on an apprenticeship wage. People thought I was crazy but I didn't care about the money. I was doing something I was passionate about and that was worth a hell of a lot more.
That summer my manger trained a few of us up to cover her classes while she went on holiday. I'll never forget my first pump class. I stood at the front, palms sweating, whole body shaking. I didn't think I'd get through it. But I did. I stepped out of my comfort zone for probably the first time in my life, and it felt amazing. It wasn't long before my confidence teaching classes grew and I realised it was something I wanted to pursue properly. I trained, first, in BodyPump, then BodyAttack, BodyBalance, and finally Sprint.
In 2018 Eden closed its doors as a female only gym, merging with the mixed gym upstairs and became Topflight Eden.
In 2020, just before the first lockdown, I decided it was time to move on. I realised I had settled back into a comfort zone and I needed to push myself once again. Starting over again in a new gym was scary but totally worth it. Once I had made that step I found the confidence to expand my horizons even more.
I am now teaching classes and running PT sessions out of @Worle leisure centre in Weston-super-Mare as well as teaching Group Exercise Classes for Nuffield in Weston-super-Mare and Trinity Leisure Centre in Bridgwater.
Most recently I found a love of yoga and
completed my MY KIND OF YOGA™ teacher training in 2020. This was the biggest journey of all. Time and time again throughout the course I had to step out of my comfort zone and each time I found a little more strength and belief in my own ability.
My training also lead me to the power of the breath.
Yoga's amazing power of breath has been a revelation to me, and it led me to start my Oxygen Advantage instructor training in 2023. I've integrated breathing techniques into every facet of fitness and daily life, embedding them in my personal training sessions, classes, workshops, and courses.
Sharing the incredible power of breath with others is truly rewarding. I'm always astonished by the transformative results and feel incredibly fortunate to impart such a precious gift.
Group fitness and Personal Training are a real passion for me. There is something special about bringing a people together, to motivate them, to make friends, and to just have fun.
To be able to give someone an hour of my time so they can have an hour of the day that is just for them, to leave behind the stress and to have some freedom. That is what matters most.
People will always have an external goal - to lose weight, to gain muscle, to increase cardiovascular fitness etc - and we will always work towards those, but for me the real gain that I want people to take away from a session with me is the internal change.
The confidence boost, the emotional change that comes from lifting a little bit heavier than last time, or being able to sprint a little quicker in a spin track. That smile when you achieved something you thought you never would. That's the stuff that gets me out of bed in the morning. That is my why
For me, fitness isn’t just about looking good. It’s about feeling good and being kind to yourself. It’s a way to improve your overall wellbeing both mentally and physically. As well as basic Personal Training, I also offer fitness packages which incorporate my love of Yoga and breath work with my love of the gym.
I understand the importance of building trust and creating a relationship with clients and many of my clients have become good friends.
During a training session with me you can expect to work hard and train intelligently to push beyond your goals while also having fun and sharing a lot of laughs. Each session will be individually tailored to you and your specific goal and I will be with you through every part of your fitness journey.
